The Laila Peak Expedition is ideal for every tough mountaineer preparing for higher-altitude peaks. Laila Peak is a stunning 6,096-meter mountain peak located in the Karakoram Range of the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. It is widely considered one of the most beautiful peaks in the world and the most beautiful mountain in the Karakoram range. From the summit, you can see all the major summits of the Karakoram, including K2, Broad Peak, and the Gasherbrums.
The peak is named after a local princess, Laila Khan, and is also known as "Golden Peak" due to its striking golden color when the sun shines on it. It is located in the Hushe Valley, a remote and rugged area that requires a multi-day trek to reach.
Laila Peak is considered a technical climb and requires advanced mountaineering skills. The climb takes around 7-10 days to complete and involves crossing glaciers, steep ice walls, and exposed ridges. The summit offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys, including the Trango Towers and the Khumbo Valley.
The peak has been climbed by some of the most skilled mountaineers in the world, including the legendary Reinhold Messner. The first ascent of the peak was made by a German-Austrian expedition in 1979, and since then, it has been a popular destination for experienced climbers looking for a challenging and rewarding climb.
Aside from mountaineering, the area around Laila Peak offers opportunities for trekking and hiking. The Hushe Valley is a remote and beautiful region, dotted with small villages and surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Trekking in this area offers a unique opportunity to experience the culture and traditions of the local Balti people, who are known for their hospitality and friendliness.
For over 17+ years, we have been organising climbing expeditions and trekking holidays in Pakistan for mountaineering enthusiasts from around the world. Hunza Adventure Tours operates a 25-35 day Laila Peak Expedition, offering full-board and logistic services until Base Camp. The duration of the expedition may be longer or shorter, depending on the client's experience and available time.
The Laila Peak Expedition starts from Islamabad. Our representative will meet and greet you at Islamabad International Airport and transfer you to the group hotel. The rest of the day in Islamabad is at leisure to recover from the long journey. We will meet over dinner to give you a detailed briefing about the Laila Peak Expedition.
After spending a night in Islamabad, you will take a breathtaking mountain-view flight to Skardu, Baltistan, the next day. En route, you will first glimpse Nanga Parbat, K2, and other stunning Himalayan and Karakoram peaks. After 45 minutes, you will arrive in Skardu, check into your hotel, and enjoy the rest of the afternoon meeting your porters or exploring the local bazaar.
Skardu is the capital city of Baltistan and the gateway to K2, Deosai Plateau, Masherbrum, Gasherbrum, Broad Peak, and many other famous Karakoram peaks. Once, Baltistan was one of the biggest kingdoms of the Himalayas. The inhabitants of Baltistan speak the Balti language, a unique form of the Tibetan language. English and Urdu are also widely spoken and understood.
In Skardu, trekkers and mountain climbers usually do their final purchasing and top-ups for their adventure journeys. The following day, you will drive along the mighty Indus River and then the Shyok River to the lush green Khaplu Valley towards Hushe. Hushe is a single-street traditional Balti village. Here, for the first time, you will sleep in a tent as there are no hotels.
After spending your first night in the tent under the stars, the trekking part of your Laila Peak Expedition will begin. You will walk to Saicho, then to Laila Peak Base Camp. We will set up our camps at the base camp of Laila Peak, and your non-guided climbing session of the expedition will begin from here onwards.
We will camp at the Base Camp for the whole climbing duration. Our guide, chef, and other staff will stay with you for the entire time. Our chefs will make healthy and nutritious food during the trek and climbing. We believe that good, nutritious food plays a vital role in outdoor sports.
After the climbing period, you will follow the same itinerary back to Islamabad. You will spend one night in Islamabad, and then the following morning, we will transfer you to Islamabad International Airport for your flight back home.
Laila Peak is a stunning and challenging climb, offering an unforgettable experience for experienced mountaineers. It is also an opportunity to explore the rugged and remote beauty of the Karakoram Range and experience the unique culture of the Balti people.
We strongly believe that our experienced staff and four decades of expertise can make your Laila Peak Expedition successful.
“Along the ancient Silk Road, every fortress, stone bazaar, and welcoming mountain hearth tells centuries of timeless history and vibrant living heritage.”
