The Nanga Parbat complex has several routes, but the most famous treks are the Rupal Valley, Fairy Meadows, and the circuit around Nanga Parbat. Seen from the west along the Karakoram Highway, the scenery is just as overwhelming, even though the ramparts here slope rather than plunge. Wherever the Indus Valley broadens out, the mountain dominates the horizon.

For sheer size, Nanga Parbat is almost without equal—not a single peak, but in fact an entire massif culminating in an ice summit 8,125 meters high. The rumpled flanks of its subservient attendants climb up out of the Indus Valley, and there, beyond the blue-grey whaleback ridges, ringed by a halo of cloud, rises its long ridge.

Of all the great mountains that form the great ranges of the Himalayas, Karakoram, and Hindu Kush, it is the most frequently seen.

“Along the ancient Silk Road, every fortress, stone bazaar, and welcoming mountain hearth tells centuries of timeless history and vibrant living heritage.”

It is also possible to make an excursion to cross the glacier, well worth it for the views.
