Pakistan Tourist Visa & eVisa Guide

Pakistan has fully transitioned to a modern, online visa system. The process is now managed through the Pakistan Online Visa System (POVS), accessible via the official portal or the PAK-ID mobile app available on Google Play and the App Store. Citizens of 192 countries are eligible to apply for an e-Visa online.

Important Update (2026): The previous Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA) and visa-on-arrival facilities have been suspended as of January 1, 2026. All applicants must now apply for a visa in advance through the online system, and final approval is subject to verification by the relevant Pakistani embassy or diplomatic mission.

How to Apply for a Pakistan Visa Online

The application process is straightforward:

1. Create an Account: Download the PAK-ID app or visit the official website. Register with your email address and set a password (minimum 12 characters, with upper/lowercase letters, a number, and a special character).

2. Verify Your Email: Enter the OTP code sent to your email to complete registration.

3. Select Visa Category: Choose the appropriate category (Tourist, Trekking/Mountaineering, Business, etc.) and sub-category.

4. Fill in Personal Details: Provide passport information, personal details, contact information, and nationality details.

5. Upload Required Documents: This typically includes your passport, a recent photograph, and supporting documents based on your visa category.

6. Pay the Visa Fee: Fees vary by nationality and visa type. Payment is made online using a credit or debit card.

7. Submit and Track: After submission, you can track your application status through the portal or app.

Visa Categories & Requirements

Tourist Visa

• Duration: Up to 3 months (single or multiple entry)

• Processing Time: 7–10 working days

• Required Documents: Passport, photograph, hotel booking or travel itinerary, and an official sponsor letter (LOI) from a tour operator registered with the Department of Tourist Services (DTS) or a Pakistani national on E-stamp paper.

Mountaineering & Trekking Visa

• Duration: Up to 3 months (single entry)

• Processing Time: Approximately 4 weeks (working days)

• Required Documents: Passport, photograph, Mountaineering Application Form or Trekking Application Form, and a LOI letter/agreement with a tour operator authorized by the DTS.

Important Note for Trekking/Mountaineering: After receiving your visa, you must also deposit a Royalty Fee in Pakistan. Rates vary by peak height and season. For example, K2 (8,611m) in summer costs USD 3,500 per person, while a standard trekking fee is USD 150.

Visa Extension

• Eligibility: You must have a valid Pakistani visa and be residing in Pakistan

• Processing Time: Up to 2 weeks (working days) for extensions up to 6 months; 4 weeks for extensions beyond 6 months
