FIXED DEPARTURES 2024/2025

Trek to the world’s second peak K-2 (8611m) Follows the rout up to the Baltoro Glacier (62km) and passes surrounded by the great connection of the above 8000m high peaks in the world. This is the world’s unique trek where you can view the famous highest peaks. Concordia (4720m) is the setting point of Godwin-Austen and Baltoro Glacier, Spectacular views surrounded by famous peaks, the K-2 (8611m) world second highest peak, Broad peak (8060m) Gasherburm peak II (8035m) and Gasherburm I. The route runs to base camp of K-2 is the remarkable journey and great explorations.

DEPARTURES:

In olden times warriors from Hunza would use this natural pathway to invade the peoples of Askolie in Baltistan. Later, the well known sport of "Polo," a Balti word meaning ball, served as a more positive outlet for aggression between these two kingdoms and matches were played on stretches of level ground in this locality.

Because the Biafo-Hispar region is very remote it serves as the last stronghold for many animals; including Himalayan bear, ibex, markhor and the snow leopard. H.W. Tilman, an English adventurer, claimed he saw footprints of the Yeti during his trek there in 1937.

At the base of Hispar Pass on its eastern flank rests Snow Lake, a basin of ice (16 km. wide) surrounded by granite pinnacles yet to be climbed. Glaciologists have conducted various experiments on the lake and have found the ice to be approximately 1.6 km. deep. Some go as far as to say that Snow Lake represents the last of the original ice cap in the earth's temperate zones.

The first segment of the journey from Islamabad to Askolie is identical to that of the K-2 Trek (see enclosed). We begin our walk from Askolie towards K-2 then shortly head west onto the Biafo Glacier. After trekking three to four days we arrive at Baintha Campsite located on an ablation valley below the granite peaks of the Ogre (7813 m.).

The walk takes us past glistening clear lakes, bright spots of green grass, glorious wild flowers and the ever present vertical snow covered peaks hanging above to complete this dazzling scene. The next two days take us over the white covered Biafo Glacier to Snow Lake. We then make the exhilarating walk up to Hispar Pass continuously overwhelmed by the incredible views.

Having reached the highest point of our journey atop Hispar Pass (5151 m.) we begin the descent into Hunza; a land where the language, culture and ethnic background is vastly different than that of Baltistan. We follow the Hispar Glacier past massive mountains such as Kanjut Sar (7760 m.) and Disteghil Sar (7885 m.) reaching the end of the glacier in four to five days.

The green oasis of Hispar Village awaits us signaling only another day is walk before a jeep transports us to Karimabad, Hunza. First sight of the lush valley of Hunza is breathtaking and in some ways makes up for the nostalgia one feels after completing a long walk. We spend one night in Karimabad then we are off to Gilgit by way of the KKH. Depending on weather conditions we then fly or drive back to Islamabad. 

Apricot or Cherry blossom or spring season is one of the best and interesting periods to visit to the mountain valley of Karakorum, "HUNZA". During the spring season the fruit trees erupt in white blossom and down the valley looks like white carpet. The blossom starts first by the almond trees then apricot trees, cherries, applies, peaches and pears, give wonderful contrast of blossom among the high snowcapped mountains. These fruits are an integral part of Hunzakutz’s diet. Apricot trees are more common in Hunza and Nagar valleys, which is famous legend fruit of the valley and in ancient time was main source of the food. 

Hunza is located in the Northern part of Pakistan near the borders of China and Afghanistan. Hunza is well known for its picturesque beauty and as well as the culture and tradition of the mountain people. For the hundreds of years it was an isolated state, ruled by the king or Mir locally called “THAM”. Normally blossom starts from end of March to end of April in the valley and best to start the trip in the first week of April. Hunza is connected from the capital, Islamabad by road, Karakorum highway and by air to Gilgit then by road to Hunza Valley 3hrs drive. All the flights to Gilgit from Islamabad are subjected to weather condition.

Hunza valley is the prime attraction for tourists, as the spectacular scenery of the surrounding mountains is overwhelming. A view of Tupopdan peak, Shisper peak, kuroon peak and Gulmit Tower from various points of Hunza valley makes it unique. The valley is known for its delicious fruit, terraced fields and longevity of local people and also for its changing colours in various seasons. The spring turns the valley to white, pink, red and purple. Summer is green with colorful flowers while autumn is the most colorful as the whole region wraps in yellow, red and orange. You may have witnessed the colours of autumn throughout the world but you will not see a beautiful mountain like Tupopdan behind the colorful trees and valleys. The autumn in Hunza valley is magnificent and an unforgettable experience. It is the best time for exploring the beautiful Hunza valley.
