GASHERBRUM-IV (7,952 M) EXPEDITION

 

The meaning of Gasherbrum is "Beautiful wall." This refers to the pale limestone walls on the great trapeze-shaped Gasherbrum IV Peak is 3,050m/10,000ft. There are six Gasherbrum Peaks in total located in the Karakorum Range. Gasherbrum glacier was discovered in 1889 by Captain Young's husband and his party. A strong Italian expedition led by Riccardo Cassin climbed Gasherbrum IV Peak 7925m/ 26,000ft through the north ridge in 1958 though they went through many climbing difficulties. It was the mountaineers like Walter Bonatti and Carlo Mauri, who successfully reached its top.
